DoorKing access control installation in West Palm Beach typically runs between $1,200 and $3,800 installed, depending on how many entry points you’re covering and whether we’re retrofitting an existing keypad or starting fresh. We stock DoorKing-compatible parts on the truck and can usually have a technician out same-day when an access panel or telephone entry system quits mid-week. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a keypad that stopped recognizing codes, a gate that opens for tenants but not for delivery drivers, or a telephone entry box that rings a disconnected line.
If you’re reading this because your DoorKing 1838 telephone entry system is dead at the pedestal or your 8060 keypad works when it wants to, you’re in the right place. We work on DoorKing equipment across West Palm Beach every week, and Lonnie Burke’s crew knows exactly which DoorKing parts fail first in this climate. Not every gate company in town carries DoorKing boards on hand. We do.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing builds a few distinct access control lines, and the parts don’t interchange the way homeowners expect them to. The 1830 series telephone entry systems (1833, 1834, 1835, 1837, 1838) share boards and keypads but use different faceplate sizes. The 8060 and 8066 standalone keypads are a separate system entirely. The more recent 9000 series moved to a different microprocessor, which means a relay board that fits a 1838 will not drop into a 9150. We see that compatibility mistake at least once a month in West Palm Beach when someone buys a part online and calls us after it won’t mount.
So the first thing we do is read the model tag inside the enclosure or on the pedestal housing. The model number tells us which board generation you have. From there, we determine whether OEM DoorKing replacement parts or a quality aftermarket equivalent makes more sense for your situation. For main control boards and power supplies, we recommend OEM DoorKing parts every time. The tolerances are tighter, and DoorKing’s surge protection is better than the cheap boards coming out of overseas suppliers. For faceplates, keypads, and some relays, aftermarket parts made to the original DoorKing spec are often indistinguishable and cost 30-40% less. Carver Gate Repair West Palm Beach is an independent service provider, not affiliated with DoorKing, so we stock both and tell you the difference honestly.

Signs Your DoorKing Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. This usually means the relay on the access board is burned out, or the wiring between the keypad and the operator has corroded. In West Palm Beach, salt air accelerates that corrosion faster than inland Florida.
- Telephone entry rings a line that doesn’t exist. The board’s phone relay has failed or the wiring at the pedestal got wet. After a hard rain, we see this constantly along Flagler Drive and in the neighborhoods near the Intracoastal.
- Codes work sometimes and not others. A keypad membrane that’s wearing out, or a loose ribbon cable inside the housing. Temperature swings make it worse – the membrane contracts in the heat and loses contact.
- The system resets on its own or drops programming. The backup battery is dead or the main power supply board can’t hold voltage. DoorKing boards are picky about power; a failing transformer will cause intermittent resets.
- The gate opens for some tenants but not others. If the directory still shows all units but select codes fail, it’s often a programming issue in the access control board rather than the gate operator itself. We troubleshoot the board before we touch the operator.
Each of these symptoms can point to more than one failed part. That’s why we don’t guess. We test voltage at the board, check relay continuity, and figure out what actually failed before we sell you a single component.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what DoorKing access control installation and repair typically costs in West Palm Beach, parts and labor together:
- Single keypad or telephone entry board swap: $350 – $850
- Full 1830 series telephone entry replacement (parts and labor): $1,800 – $2,800
- Complete new access control installation with pedestal, wiring, and power: $2,400 – $3,800
- Diagnostic call (applied to the repair if you approve the work): $89 – $129
What drives the range is mostly the condition of the existing wiring and whether the pedestal you already have can be reused. In older West Palm Beach communities, pedestal rust is common. If we can use your existing enclosure, you save. If we’re cutting out rotted steel and running new conduit, the job costs more. Every quote is written before any work starts, and the number on that quote is the number you pay. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s been that way since 2008.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely check before picking up the phone. Open the enclosure and look for obvious water damage or ants nesting on the board (yes, ants love control enclosures in Florida). Check that the power switch on the unit hasn’t been flipped off. If your keypad beeps but nothing happens, try one more code and watch for the “relay click” sound inside the box. If you hear the click, your access control is working and the problem is in the gate operator. If you don’t hear it, the access board itself failed.
What you should not do is open the board, start replacing fuses, or rewire anything while the unit has live power. DoorKing boards carry line voltage at the transformer, and a wrong tap can fry a perfectly good board. If the unit is over five years old and lives in direct sun, the solder joints on the main relay tend to crack from thermal cycling. That’s a bench-level repair or board replacement, and it’s not a weekend project. Figure out what broke first. Everything else follows from that. If you’re not sure, call us at (728) 203-2413 and describe what you’re seeing. A real person answers, and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a board, a keypad, or a power supply problem.
FAQs
A DoorKing access control board typically lasts 7 to 12 years in South Florida, though boards in direct afternoon sun or within a mile of salt water often fail closer to the 5-year mark. Heat and humidity are the two biggest killers, and we see both every summer in West Palm Beach. If your board is over 10 years old and starting to act up, replacing it is usually cheaper than patching it repeatedly.
Sometimes, but not always. Relay failures and cracked solder joints can be reworked on the bench. Corrupted programming chips and burned power traces usually mean the board is done. We’ll always tell you which situation you have before we recommend spending money. Call (728) 203-2413 and we’ll talk through the symptoms.
Most single-board or keypad swaps take 2 to 3 hours on site, including programming and testing all entry codes. A full telephone entry system replacement with new pedestal and wiring takes a full day, sometimes two if we’re trenching. We give you the timeline in writing with the quote.
We stock DoorKing replacement boards, keypads, relays, power supplies, and enclosures on our trucks for the most common models in West Palm Beach. For older or less common DoorKing parts, we can usually have them in hand within 2 to 3 business days. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls when the issue crosses brands.
If your DoorKing access control is down or acting up, call us at (728) 203-2413. We’ll diagnose it over the phone, give you a written price before anyone shows up, and send a background-checked, uniformed technician who knows DoorKing equipment by model, not by guesswork. Every repair is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing, for a full year.
