Elite access control installation in West Palm Beach typically runs $850 to $2,400 installed, depending on the reader, keypad, and whether you’re adding a telephone entry system or phone-line replacement. We stock Elite-compatible boards, keypads, readers, and power supplies on our trucks most weeks, and we can usually have a technician out same-day or next-morning for a diagnostic. Most owners discover the failure the hard way: the gate stays locked when it should open, a keypad stops accepting codes, or the property manager’s phone buzzes with a tenant who can’t get in after dark.
If your Elite system quit reading cards, won’t recognize one keypad but works on another, or the gate chatters open and closed without a command, you’re in the right place. This page covers which Elite models these parts fit, what fails first in Florida humidity, what a replacement should cost in this market, and when it’s a straight swap versus a full board replacement.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite access control spans several generations of boards and peripherals, and the part that failed on your system depends on the vintage. The SL3000 and SL5000 slide-gate operators paired with Elite’s keypad and card-reader kits are the most common in West Palm Beach residential communities. Older MiMo and TeleEntry systems still show up in HOAs and condo complexes, and those run on different wiring than the newer EL series boards.
The compatibility gotcha we see regularly: an Elite keypad from one series will not always talk to a board from another. The wiring between Elite generations changed from a simple four-wire configuration to a multi-conductor data line, and mixing old keypads with new boards or vice-versa results in a keypad that powers up but never triggers the gate. Before you order anything, read the model number off the board itself, not the housing. The board has a printed label with the series (SL, EL, MiMo, or TeleEntry) and a revision letter. Measure the mounting bolt spacing on the keypad or reader too. Elite changed the physical footprint at least twice, and a new keypad that doesn’t fit the old box means cutting concrete or patching stucco for no reason.
For Elite specifically, we recommend OEM boards when the system controls a shared community gate. Aftermarket equivalents exist and work fine for simple open-close relays, but the Elite OEM boards handle the anti-tailgate logic and timer-to-close functions with fewer false triggers. Carver Gate Repair West Palm Beach is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite, but we match OEM or proven aftermarket parts based on what your board actually needs. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. This usually points to a failed relay on the Elite board or a wiring break between the keypad and the operator. The keypad beeps and lights up, which feels like it’s working, but the trigger signal never reaches the motor.
- Card reader flashes but won’t read any cards. In West Palm Beach, we often find corrosion on the reader contacts or antenna. The salt air and humidity get inside the reader housing, even when it looks sealed, and the read range drops to zero over a season or two.
- Gate opens partway and stops, or reverses for no reason. This is frequently the loop detector or the safety edge wiring feeding false signals to the access control board. The board thinks something is in the gate’s path and stops the cycle.
- Tenants report the gate stays open after hours. The timer-to-close function on the Elite board may be done, or the board is losing its programming when power blips. West Palm Beach has frequent afternoon storms and brief outages, and boards with weak on-board batteries lose their settings each time.
- Programming changes won’t save. You add a new code, it works for a day, then it’s gone. This is memory failure on the Elite board itself, not a keypad problem. The board has to be replaced or repaired.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In West Palm Beach, expect to pay $350 to $650 to replace a single Elite keypad or card reader, installed. A full Elite access control board swap runs $650 to $1,200, and a complete new access control package with keypad, reader, and board lands between $1,400 and $2,400 depending on whether you need telephone entry or wireless remotes added. The range comes down to your existing wiring, the board series, and whether the old housing can be reused.
Every Carver Gate Repair West Palm Beach job includes a written price before any work starts. You’ll know the parts cost and the labor cost as separate lines, and that number does not move unless we find something structural that requires your approval first. The work carries a written guarantee good for a full year. If the same part or repair fails inside that window, the second visit is free, no charge and no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
Access control wiring is low-voltage, which makes it safer to inspect than a gate motor or high-tension spring, but it still carries real risk if you misjudge it. You can safely check for obvious damage: a keypad housing full of water, a reader that’s been hit by a car, wiring that’s pulled loose at the terminal strip. Those are visual checks, and they’ll tell you whether you need a service call.
What we’d caution against is opening the board enclosure and probing terminals if you’re not sure what you’re looking at. Elite boards run on low voltage, but a short across the wrong two terminals can take out the board, the operator’s receiver, or both, turning a simple keypad swap into a four-figure repair. Same goes for re-wiring a keypad when you’re not certain which generation you have. We’ve been called out to enough West Palm Beach jobs where a well-intentioned DIY weekend ended with a dead board and a gate locked in the open position overnight. The diagnostic call is free to schedule, and Lonnie Burke won’t sell you a board if your problem is a corroded wire nut.

FAQs
An Elite board in this climate typically lasts 7 to 12 years, but boards mounted in enclosures that face direct afternoon sun or sit near the coast can fail sooner. Heat cycling and humidity are the two things that kill them before the components actually wear out.
Sometimes. Blown relays, corroded terminals, and failed surge protection components are repairable. If the memory chip or main processor is done, replacement is the only honest fix. We’ll tell you which path you’re on before any work starts. Call (728) 203-2413 for a diagnostic.
A straight keypad or reader swap takes an hour or less on site, including programming and testing. A full board replacement with keypad and reader runs two to three hours. If we need to run new wire or patch the mounting surface, that adds time and you’ll know before we start.
We stock common Elite keypads, readers, and older SL-series boards on our vehicles, plus universal loop detectors and power supplies that work across most Elite generations. If your board is a less common revision, we can usually have it in hand within one to two business days.
