Get your free estimateLinear Welding & Fabrication: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide
If you’ve got a Linear gate operator with a cracked chassis, a snapped drive arm, or a weld that’s let go, here’s the short version: we stock Linear-compatible steel and aluminum weldments on our trucks, and most fabrication repairs in West Palm Beach run between $180 and $450 installed, including the weld, the rod, and the cleanup. If it’s a structural failure on the gate itself rather than the operator, add another $60 to $120 for heavier stock. We’re not affiliated with Linear, but we work on their equipment every week, and we can usually get you back in operation same day if we’re already in your neighborhood.
The way most people find us is after the gate starts sagging or the opener starts groaning and they trace it to a hinge that’s torn through its weld or an arm that’s cracked at the bolt hole. Linear operators put real torque into the gate, and when the metal gives way, the motor keeps pushing. That’s when the damage compounds. Figure out what broke first. Everything else follows from that.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
We fabricate and weld for the full range of Linear equipment you’ll find in West Palm Beach, including the LDO series swing operators, the LS series slide operators, and the APeX and MegaCode receiver boards that mount to them. The most common weld failures we see are on the LDO50 and LDO75 articulating arms, the LS series drive rails and chain brackets, and the standard steel mounting plates that ship with every Linear kit.
Here’s a compatibility gotcha that costs people money if they miss it: Linear has changed the mounting hole spacing on their swing operator arms across production runs over the years. An arm from a 2014 LDO50 won’t necessarily bolt up to a 2021 unit, even though both are labeled LDO50. We measure center-to-center on the bolt holes before we cut or weld anything, and we match the metal thickness to the original spec, which is typically 3/16-inch mild steel on the operator-side brackets and 1/4-inch on the gate-side plates. If you’ve got an aftermarket arm, we’ll tell you whether it’s actually worth rewelding or if the geometry is off enough that you’re better off with a new OEM or quality aftermarket part. We stock both, and the price difference is usually $40 to $80 on most Linear-compatible arms and brackets.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the hinge side and scrapes the driveway at the latch side. The hinge welds are stretching or cracking, and the gate’s weight is now hanging on the operator instead of the post. Linear arms aren’t built to carry gate weight, so the motor strains and the arm flexes until something gives.
- You can see a crack running through a weld, usually at a corner or a bolt hole. Florida heat cycles and daily operation work-harden the steel over time. A hairline crack at a stress riser is the classic first failure point on Linear mounting brackets.
- The operator groans or chatters when the gate moves. The drive arm or rack is binding because a weld has shifted and thrown off the alignment. Linear slide operators especially don’t tolerate misalignment, and the chatter is the metal telling you the load isn’t traveling true.
- The gate stops mid-travel or reverses for no apparent reason. Loose or cracked fabrication lets the gate move unpredictably, which the Linear control board reads as an obstruction. You might chase limit switches and loop detectors before finding the real problem is a broken weld at the chain anchor.
- Fresh rust staining runs down from any bracket or arm joint. Salt air in West Palm Beach, especially within a few miles of the Intracoastal, accelerates rust at every weld. Once rust is bleeding out of a joint, the weld inside has already compromised.
The moisture and salt content in our air is harder on steel than most owners expect. A weld that lasted fifteen years in a dry climate will sometimes fail in eight or ten here, particularly on swing gates that face the ocean breeze. In the Northwood Hills neighborhood, we see a lot of older ornamental iron gates paired with newer Linear operators, and the failure is almost always at the point where the new motor connects to the old iron.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Linear welding and fabrication work in West Palm Beach, you’re looking at $180 to $450 for a straightforward repair. A broken drive arm repair typically runs $180 to $280. A cracked chassis or mounting plate runs $220 to $350, depending on how much disassembly is required to get the part off clean. Structural gate welding at the hinge or latch side runs $250 to $520 when we’re reinforcing the original steel rather than just patching it.
| Job Type | Typical Price Range | What Drives the Price |
|---|---|---|
| Drive arm re-weld or replacement | $180 – $280 | Whether the arm can be salvaged or needs new stock |
| Chassis or mounting plate repair | $220 – $350 | Disassembly time, access to the weld area |
| Gate hinge or latch re-weld | $250 – $520 | Gate weight, whether we’re reinforcing or patching |
| Full gate re-alignment after weld repair | $80 – $150 | Usually included with the weld repair if we’re already there |
Every price you see here is a written quote before we strike an arc. You’ll know the number before the work starts, and that number doesn’t move at the door. The weld repair itself carries the full 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing. If the weld fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No argument, no invoice.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do is identify the problem. Look for visible cracks, rust staining, sag, or anything that moves when it shouldn’t. Take a photo. That helps you describe it accurately when you call. What you should not do is weld on a gate that’s still hung, still connected to the operator, or still under tension from springs or from its own weight. A gate that weighs 400 pounds can crush a hand or worse if it shifts while you’re working on it. Hot work near a Linear control board or wiring also carries real risk of frying the board if you don’t isolate the electrical first.
If the metal is cracked but the gate still opens and closes, shut the operator off at the breaker and leave it until we arrive. If you’ve got a welder and you’re confident in your skills, you can absolutely handle simple bracket repair on a bench. The gate-side structural work, the stuff under load or overhead, that’s where we see the worst injuries. If you’re anywhere near uncertain, call (728) 203-2413 and we’ll give you an honest read over the phone before we ever schedule a visit.
FAQs
In our coastal Florida climate, you can expect eight to fifteen years from original Linear steel parts, with the shorter end applying to properties within a mile or two of salt water and the longer end to inland neighborhoods where the air is drier. Regular inspection of weld joints at the hinge and operator connection points is the single best way to catch a crack before it becomes a full failure.
In many cases, yes. A cracked weld can be ground out and re-welded, and we regularly reinforce linear operator brackets rather than bolt in new ones. The deciding factor is whether the parent metal around the crack is still sound. If it is, repair is cheaper and usually just as strong. If the steel itself is fatigued or heavily rusted, replacement is the honest call.
Most of our Linear fabrication jobs are done in two to four hours on site, including unbolting the part, cleaning the metal, welding, and reinstalling with fresh hardware. We quote the time along with the price, so you’ll know before we start whether we’re looking at a single visit or whether parts need to come from our shop first.
We keep a working inventory of Linear-compatible arms, brackets, drive rails, and mounting plates on our trucks, along with selected parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls. If we don’t have your specific part, we can usually source it within one to two business days. Call (728) 203-2413 and we’ll tell you honestly what we have and when we can get the rest.
